The estimated number of Black Bears in North Carolina is 17,000-20,000! Now that bears are returning to areas they used to call home, it’s up to people and communities to learn how to peacefully coexist with these amazing animals.
Ashley Hobbs with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission will be here to help us learn to be BearWise. Come join us as we learn about the Black Bear!
Saturday, April 13, 9:00am - Mars Hill University
Come enjoy a taste of Madison County in Mars Hill, NC where runners will embark on a music-filled 5k. Fiddlers and folk musicians are scattered along the 3.1 mile course and will put a smile on your face as you enjoy the beauty of our Appalachian mountains. The course is scenic, fast and all pre-registered participants will receive a FREE T-SHIRT with their registration.
All profits raised will assist in the growth of the Arts within Madison County.
Madison County Litter Sweep Contest
The Great Madison County Litter Sweep Contest will run from April 13-27, 2019, in conjunction with the statewide litter sweep. The prizes are $1,000 for the most bags of recyclables and $500 for the most bags of nonrecyclable trash. Bags, gloves, vests and safety signs will be supplied. More info here.

An Evening with Grandma Gatewood: Actress Ann Van Curen will bring to life the amazing and inspiring story of Emma "Grandma" Gatewood, the first woman to solo thru hike the Appalachian Trail. This is a 2019 Hot Springs Trail Fest Event. Free/All Ages. Light refreshments will be served.
